The roots of this swingband lie in the student city of
Delft. In 2001 a number of alumni from the Technical
University of Delft who played together as students decided to
get back together. The music the band focuses on is from the
40’s and 50’s, known as Jump Blues or Jive, a hard-swinging
type of formed the basis for the
Rock&Roll.
The repertoire includes old jump songs of Louis
Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Fats Domino and Louis Prima,
supplemented by numbers from the North American swing revival
in the 1990’s: Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Colin
James. And of course The Blues Brothers.
De "roots" van deze swingband liggen in Delft. Eind
2001 besloot een aantal oud-muzikanten van de Delftse
Studenten Big Band, de Delftsche Studenten Dans Harmonie en de
Wageningse Ceresband een nieuwe band te vormen in dezelfde
tradities van enthousiasme en ritmegevoel. Echter geen
Dixieland of Glenn Miller maar muziek die tussen jazz en
rock&roll in zit. Eind jaren '40 en begin '50 bekend als
"Jump Blues" of "Jive", een rauwere vorm van swing dan wat
bijvoorbeeld Benny Goodman speelde.
Het repertoire wordt gevormd door oude jump-nummers
van Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Fats Domino en Louis Prima,
aangevuld met songs uit de Noord-Amerikaanse swing-revival in
de jaren '90: Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy en Colin
James. Natuurlijk staan ook een aantal nummers van de Blues
Brothers op het repertoire.
